David Sweeney is a recent addition to GENCapital who brings an abundance of business and life experiences to the firm. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy and has over 20 years of experience in Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis, Project Management, Sales, Deal Structuring and Financing in the Information Technology Industries, primarily at IBM and its financing arm, IBM Credit Corporation, LLC. In his business and personal relationships, David has had a passion for assisting his fellow peers and individual clients in their financial lives and has taken great interest in getting them on the path to achieve their financial goals. In 2017, he made the decision to pursue his passion and to shift his career focus to the personal financial planning and advisory industry.
David was attracted to GENCapital because of the firm’s focus on teamwork, collaboration and giving back to the community in addition to the attentive nature that GENCapital provides to its clients. David’s focus is in providing comprehensive wealth planning strategies, including investment management, retirement planning strategies, education planning, insurance and risk management, and estate planning to name a few. He takes pride in helping clients achieve financial goals through a simplified, personal and attentive approach, upholding the Standards of Professional Conduct that set the ethical standards for CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professionals, and being a fiduciary for clients.
David is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, earning a dual degree major with a BA in Economics and Political Science and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy from the NROTC program there. He served aboard USS Comstock (LSD-45) during Operation Desert Storm and subsequently attained an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Plus, David has completed the rigorous academic coursework requirements and successfully passed the board exam for the CFP® designation.
He is a Philadelphia, PA native and has resided in Roswell, GA for over 15 years with his wife Stephanie and their three daughters. He is a member of the Georgia Chapter of the Financial Planning Association, the Knights of Columbus Fraternal Organization, the Military Officers Association of America, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) as well as the leader of the Fathers in Faith spiritual life program at his children’s schools. David and his family are active in Blue Skies Ministries assisting families living with pediatric cancer, and they are members of St. Peter Chanel Church in Roswell, GA. They also enjoy adventuring in outdoor activities, the beach and traveling and exploring new places.
